Summer Reading Recs

Here are some suggestions for your road trips, train or plane rides this summer. Below are short blurbs about each book.

Enjoy!

RECITATIF by Toni Morrison

The only short story every penned by this late great author will have you puzzled and second guessing your decision on Twyla and Roberta. I guarantee that once you think you figured them out, Toni will throw in a curve ball and have you rethink your position entirely.

What I Know For Sure by Oprah Winfrey

Television mogul, Oprah has given us a backstage pass to insight she has gained and deemed valuable in her success during her many decades in the business. These gems are worthly of pen and paper.

Passing by Nella Larsen

This has been on my TBR for years. After Netflix debuted their film adaptation, I knew I needed to read this book beforehand. All I could say is “wow” after this short story ended and I am still debating with my bestie over the details. This is a must read!

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

Coelho's NY Times Bestseller tells the mystical story of Santiago, a small town shepherd boy who yearns to travel in search of a worldly treasure. His quest provides him a treasure greater than he ever imagined. His journey reminds us to listen to our hearts and trust the signs. I have read this book at least three times and each time I learn something different.

My Sister, the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite

This is a book I completely judged by its cover and my curiosity did not disappoint. Taken place in Lagos, Nigeria Korede and Ayoola experience a haunting past. Each sister handles this different. One chooses to forget and another disposes boyfriends like a shunken blouse. A definite page turner.

The Magnolia Story by Chip & Joanna Gaines

This couple open up their lives beyond the HGTV cameras and allow us in on their story of how their love for flipping homes, one another and family all began.
